In 2012, researchers from the Universities of Southampton, Edinburgh and Oxford, led by Professor Sir Nigel Shadbolt, embarked on a five-year research programme.
SOCIAM’s work emphasises the evolutionary nature of Social Machines in a progressive and dynamic digital climate and their role within the 21st century. The project seeks to understand the role that Social Machines play in people’s personal, professional and social lives. The overarching objective for SOCIAM is to enable us to create the next generation of Social Machines.
Research is funded (£6m) by the EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) together with additional contributions from key international research, public sector and industry collaborators.
