Our E-Health and Digital Epidemiology project explores challenges and opportunities related to the use of social machines to aid medical-related efforts. Social machines for health are rapidly expanding and evolving and have been used by millions of people around the world. Some of the topics we have covered in this project include the use of social media platforms to monitor and manage outbreaks of diseases, and the use of smartphone apps and online communities to help people lead healthier lives and manage chronic and acute illness.
The project has also involved systematic reviews of published materials on the use of social media for e-government in the public health sector as well of how health information exchange can be used to capture, classify, and synthesise relevant evidence held in different databases.
